Biography
Adam Setkowicz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków from 1891 to 1894. It is known that in 1933 he participated in an exhibition in Piotrków Trybunalski. He painted mainly in watercolors, although he also worked in oil. The artist’s favorite subjects were genre scenes from provincial Polish life, hunting expeditions, rural farmyards, sleigh rides, and horse-drawn carriages. His oil paintings, which were very popular at the time but are less well-known today, were often reproduced on various types of postcards, and their subjects were drawn from literary works or historical events.
