Adolf Hitler’s autobiography and political manifesto. The piece offered for sale was published in 1935 by the NSDAP Central Publishing House, Franz Eher, Nachf., in Munich, Germany. The book is in very good condition. The binding is firm, and all pages are intact.
Standard editions of *Mein Kampf* were published in the same size as a standard German Bible. The reason for this was Hitler’s hope that hisbook would eventually replace the Bible in German homes! Hitler dictated this book to his secretary, Rudolf Hess, while he was imprisoned in Landsberg following the failed revolution of 1923.
The first editions, published in 1925 (Band I or Volume One) and 1926 (Band II or Volume Two), were published as separate volumes. With a few exceptions (special editions), all subsequent editions published during the Third Reich (1933–1945) combined both volumes into a single book. Very few pieces of the first editions have survived. When his book was first published, it was not a success; in 1925, hardly anyone took much notice of a book with such a much longer title. The original title chosen by Hitler was “Viereinhalb Jahre [des Kampfes] gegen Lüge, Dummheit und Feigheit” (Four and a Half Years [of Struggle] Against Lies, Stupidity, and Cowardice). His Nazi publisher, Max Amann, considered this title too complicated and shortened it to *Mein Kampf* (simply “My Struggle”).
Before Hitler became Chancellor of the German Reich in 1933, *Mein Kampf* sold very slowly; but in 1933 alone, 1.5 million pieces were sold.
The copy offered here was a prize for passing the commercial assistant exam from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Świdnica.
