Few people today do not associate Ornellaia wine. It is, after all, one of the most important wineries in the prestigious Bolgheri appellation and the very top producer of Supertoscans. Founded in 1981 by Ludovio Antinori, managed in the meantime by Roberto Mondavi, it is now in the Frescobaldi's extensive portfolio.
Ornellaia wines are made in the Maremma region, right on the coast. The breeze here balances the hot climate and strong sun, which, combined with the gravel-based soils, provides great conditions for Bordeaux varietals.
Ornellaia is made from hand-picked fruit (cabernet sauvignon and franc, merlot and petit verdot), vinified very precisely, depending on the parcel and harvest date.
2016 is one of the best vintages for Ornellai. Extremely rich, complex, precise. Aromas actually do not end, we can still discover something new: after cherries, cherries and blackberries we find the scent of coffee beans, licorice, dark chocolate, sandalwood and cigar box.
Structure without any fault with high acidity and strong tannin, nicely hidden under a soft and pleasant body. A success for the producer and a great pleasure to drink.
