17th-century walnut storage bench with Mannerist-style carvings

This solid walnut bench features elaborate high-relief carvings in the Mannerist style. The piece is constructed from walnut panels that display a rich, dark patina. The corner post is embellished with a carved caryatid—a female figure—whose torso transitions into scrollwork and leaf motifs. The front is characterized by a large panel set within a thick, molded frame. The piece rests on a base with pronounced rounded molding, supported by sturdy, stylized cat’s-paw feet. The interior is accessible via a hinged lid held in place by a hand-forged wrought-iron strap hinge visible at the rear. The piece is constructed of solid wood with hand-carved decorative elements. No manufacturer’s marks, signatures, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior surfaces shown in the image.
