Biography
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1958 to 1964 and received his diploma in 1964 from Stanisław Szczepański’s studio. After graduation, he traveled through Czechoslovakia, the USSR, and East Germany. He practiced easel painting—landscapes and figurative compositions—as well as printmaking and drawing; he also designed stage sets for student theaters. He had numerous exhibitions both in Poland and abroad, including in Vienna, Prague, Karlovy Vary, Berlin, Hamburg, Brussels, Oslo, New Zealand, Sindelringen, Düsseldorf, Antibes, New York, and New Hope (USA). In 1970, the artist moved away from his previous style of painting, which was rooted in “new figuration,” and made Kazimierz Dolny the almost exclusive subject of his paintings. He painted in light, pastel tones, giving his works a gentle, lyrical atmosphere. He very often idealized the townscapes.
