An issue of the highest rarity among silver roubles, printed in green. Signed by the bank director Englert.
By analyzing the occurrence of individual years, we have identified only six known examples of the 1856 issue. More information can be found in our article “How to Approach the Silver Rouble” – link
A banknote with a very attractive, relatively natural appearance for a silver rouble; however, when examined under raking light, minor and subtly executed conservation treatments can be detected, which is why the print does not display the typical “liveliness” characteristic of this issue and appears matte. Nevertheless, for a silver rouble, the banknote is clearly unworn by circulation, with no tears, and with intact, smooth edges. Combined with the rarity of the year, this makes it a piece of truly exceptional class.
In our opinion, collecting silver roubles by year represents the most difficult challenge a collector of Polish paper money can face.
The offered year is only one of four examples that have ever appeared on the Polish auction market. This alone is sufficient to conclude that another opportunity to acquire this particular issue is unlikely to arise soon, especially considering that the example from the Lucow Collection has already been sold.
