Letter sent from Slawa (Schlawa) to Schweinitz bei Grünberg (Swidnica near Zielona Gora), dated August 18, 1839.
The manuscript is drawn up on high-quality handmade paper, bearing the filigree "D & C BLAUW" - a renowned Dutch paper manufacturer. This very company's paper was widely used during the Kosciuszko Insurrection in 1794 to produce the first Polish banknotes - treasury tickets.
According to Robert Jadrych in his study "Treasury tickets of the Kosciuszko Insurrection - the first Polish paper money", paper with the "D & C BLAUW" mark ranks third in terms of frequency of use in the production of insurrectionist banknotes, which confirms its importance and widespread use. (Published in: "Treasury tickets from the time of the Kościuszko Insurrection", edited by M. Szymczyk, Duszniki-Zdrój 2024).
The offered letter is a very interesting comparative material for collectors of Kościuszko Insurrection banknotes and lovers of historical handmade paper. Valuable for collectors of Silesian regionals as well as advanced collections of filigree and banknote papers.
