Grade: almost XF, patina.
The figure in the quadriga on the reverse of the above denarius is Gaius Marius himself. The presented scene commemorates the triumph of the outstanding reformer of the Roman army. It is the first coin in the history of Rome to bear the image of a living person (Crawford 1974, p. 730).
