Modigliani painted a portrait of his then 21-year-old partner Jeanne Hebuterne two years before his death. Jeanne and Amadeo had lived together since 1916. The portrait of Jaenne wearinga largestrawhat isconsideredthe mostbeautifulofthesixteenportraitshepaintedofher.It was painted the year Jeannebecamepregnant with theirdaughterGiovanna. Two yearslater,shebecamepregnant again. But unfortunately,sheendedherown lifetheday after Amedeo's death.
