Atelier Girs- Barcz,foundedin 193 bytwoprintmakersAnatoly Girs andBoleslawBarcz.Initially, the atelierwaslocated at151Marszalkowska Street,butlater,mainly foreconomicreasons, the atelier was moved to 40SmolnaStreet, where Franciszek Zmurkopreviouslyhadhispaintingstudio.
At the "Atelier Girs and Barcz", in addition to comprehensive graphic design of albums, luxury publications,bookbindings and covers, theartistsalso designedadvertisingposters,ex-libris,catalogs,brochures,advertising labels or companyletterheads.Thanks toBoleslawBarcz's skills,the atelieralsoproducedportraits, specialphotomontagesaswellas monumentalsculpturesorinteriordecorations on specialorders.
Initially, the resulting works,although oftentheindividual workofeach artist,weresignedjointlybytheartists.Most of theportraitsin etching or lithography or serigraphy weredonebyBoleslawBarcz, while the design oflayoutsorthe entirety ofthe more importantalbum publications themselves, as well as negotiations with clients,weretheresponsibilityof Anatoly Girts.
In 1938, the aforementioned graphic designers opened the Oficina Warszawska at 23 Miodowa Street. Unfortunately, the ambitious plans for the new establishment, which promoted bibliophilic prints, were brutally interrupted by the war. The last work published by the atelier was abookletbyJ.Stępkowskientitled. "Prayer to the HolySpirit for avictoriousforce on the Polish sea," printed in atypeface developed by them "Militari" andhand-madeetching by Barcz.
