Michał Stachowicz - Polish painter and printmaker of the Romantic era. Michal Stachowicz's father was a well-known Cracow printer, bookseller and bookbinder. In 1782 he began to study drawing at the painters' guild, first with Franciszek Ignacy Molitor and then with KazimierzMolodzinski.In 1787 heliberatedhimself as a guild painter andbecamea member of theguild. From 1817 until his death,hetaught drawing at St. Barbara 's High School .He wasa member of theKosciuszkoMound Building Committeeand the Cracow Scientific Society.
He painted paintings depicting historical events such asKosciuszko's Oathon the Market Square inKrakow, the Entry ofPrinceJozef Poniatowski to Krakow in 1809, genre scenes, portraits and religious paintings.
Michal Stachowicz wasalso a lithographer and illustratorfor, among others, Monumenta regum Poloniae Cracoviensia, andwasalsoinvolvedinetching. He lived and died in a house at 15 Grodzka Street in Cracow, which is commemorated by a plaque by Karol Hukan (dated 1939).
