Oil, board, chalk-plaster backing; 31 x 22 x 2.5 cm.
Russia, 19th century.
The field of the icon framed by a yellow stripe; one sprig on the back.
This image belongs to the Marian icons of the Hodegetria type, meaning from Greek: "Pointing the Way." In the center of the icon, the Mother of God is shown in a half pose, with her head slightly turned to the left, with a dignified gesture of the right hand pointing to the Son, with the other she embraces the Savior - the stars situated on the Maforion covering the Mother of God indicate her virginity before, during and after the birth of Jesus Christ.
