COMMENTS ON THEATER IN KRAKÓW
The first comprehensive and synthetic study of the theater in Cracow, by H. Meciszewski (1803-1855) - a well-known publicist, journalist, translator and theater scholar. A compendium of information about the people of culture, actors, performances staged, costumes, decorations and details of the activities of this theater in the first decades of the 19th century. This book paved the way for the author to assume the directorship of the oldest theater in Cracow, which he reorganized in 1843-1845, formulating its program as a national institution, introducing the function of an inspector, taking care to develop the artistry of actors and fidelity to historical realities. His directorship was later set as a model. An important and source-valuable item on the history of theater in Poland.
