Andrzej Konwerski (b. 1941, Warsaw), "The Dancing Gypsy"

Biography
In 1965, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Department of Painting and Graphic Arts, in the studio of Professor Artur Nacht-Samborski. He works in painting and drawing. The space in his paintings evokes the theater: figures from the Venetian carnival, colorful Gypsy women, Pierrots, or figures in white masks and black cloaks, characteristic of Venetian New Year’s celebrations. They are captured in motion, full of expression. Despite the theatricality, the color palette of his works is quite dark: blacks, grays, and beiges dominate, with the only vivid accent being an exceptionally saturated red. His delicate lithographs and his paintings, full of color and expression, contrast strikingly with one another, creating a unique whole.
