oil, panel, 100 x 100 cm, signed and described on the back: "ANDRZEJ URBANOWICZ | CHOIR REVOLUTIONS | 1999".
Andrzej Urbanowicz is a painter, printmaker and performer, a representative of a variety of pop-art called psychedelic-art. He was a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, closely associated with the university's branch in Katowice, where he lived and worked. At his debut solo exhibition at the Krzywe Koło Gallery in Warsaw in 1963, he showed works strongly alluding to ideas close to Władysław Strzemiński and the mysticism of Pseudo-Dionysius. At that time, occultism joined his circle of interests (Zen Buddhism, neo-gnosis, solar symbolism).
In Urbanowicz's work of the late 1960s, the atmosphere of Zbigniew Makowski's art is palpable. It was then that he, along with Henryk Wańek and Urszula Broll, among others, collaborated in the Oneiron group (1963-1978). The artistic collective explored, among other things, Carl Gustav Jung's theory, including the meaning of dreams, and the iconography of Far Eastern art. The search for the meaning of existence and love was important to Urbanovich's artistic activities. He believed that the sun was the basic principle of existence, and consistently, from the 1960s onward, this was one of the basic themes undertaken by the artist.
From 1978 to 1991 he was on scholarship in the United States. Andrzej Urbanowicz's works can be found in museums and private collections around the world
