Marie of Burgundy was the only daughter of Duke Charles the Bold. She married Maximilian I in August 1477. This series of medals, in the 15th-century style, is poorly documented. It is believed to originate from Prague, dating from around 1620–1650, and is thought to be the work of an unidentified Jewish goldsmith. It consists mainly of medals depicting emperors and the Holy Roman Empire, often presented in pairs: Charlemagne, Charles IV of Luxembourg, Henry and Constance, Albert II and Elizabeth of Luxembourg, Frederick III and his son Maximilian I, Eleanor of Portugal, Maximilian I and his wife Mary of Burgundy, and the coronation of Maximilian I. It also includes depictions of saints—such as Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, Saint Margaret, and Saint Catherine—as well as kings and queens, including Peter I of Spain, Philip VI of Valois and Blanche, Louis XII and Anne of Brittany, Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, and others.
