On September 13, 1900, the Association for the Preservation of Building and Art Monuments was founded in Gdansk, which in 1902 held the first architectural competition in the history of Gdansk for the design of facades of selected Gdansk buildings.
110 works were submitted for the competition. The competition was resolved in October 1902, and 13 projects were awarded.
As a document of the competition, a commemorative album was created, containing 100 plates presenting the submitted competition works. It is the subject of this auction.
The offered album is complete and preserved in beautiful condition.
In such a form now a huge rarity.
A beautiful collector's item and a very attractive asset for lovers of the history of Gdansk. There is also no shortage of such among collectors of Danzig banknotes, and we can find reflections of some of the facades shown here on beautiful Danzig guilder bills.
