An interesting deposit token of Franciszek Niewczyk’s Instrument Factory in Lviv, intended for marking items entrusted to the workshop for repair.
The Franciszek Niewczyk company was one of the well-known Lviv workshops engaged in the manufacture, sale, and repair of musical instruments. The Niewczyk family had been associated with instrument making since the late 19th century, while the Lviv workshop specialized primarily in wind instruments and also provided professional repair services.
The obverse bears the name of the factory and instructions concerning the collection of items left for repair:
“FABRYKA INSTRUMENTÓW / Za przedmioty / dane do naprawy a / nie odebrane z przeciągiem / dwóch miesięcy nie ręczy się / № 84 / FRANCISZEK NIEWCZYK W LWOWIE”
[“INSTRUMENT FACTORY / No responsibility is assumed for items / left for repair and not collected / within two months / No. 84 / FRANCISZEK NIEWCZYK IN LVIV”]
The centrally stamped number 84 served as the identification number of the item accepted for repair. The hole in the lower part allowed the token to be attached to an instrument or another object left at the workshop.
The reverse additionally bears the inventory number 694 applied in ink.
