2 zlote 1970, a circulation coin of the Polish People’s Republic struck in aluminum at the State Mint in Warsaw, with a mintage of 2,014,000 pieces.
The original 1970 issue, characterized by a rounded top on the digit “7” and a noticeably smaller digit “0” in the date. This variant is designated by NGC as ROUND TOP 7.
Variant K112.It is significantly harder to find in high mint condition than the later variety with a sharp top on the number “7.” Coins from the original issue entered normal circulation, which is why the vast majority of surviving pieces bear minor or significant signs of circulation. The variant with a sharp “7,” produced later while retaining the date 1970, is much more commonly found in mint condition.
This is a particularly interesting item for collectors of die varieties and circulation coins from the People’s Republic of Poland, especially given the great difficulty in acquiring the original 1970 2 zlote variety in high condition.
