Włodzimierz Zakrzewski (St. Petersburg 1916 - 1992 Warsaw) - Polish painter, graphic artist, poster designer. One of the initiators and promoters of Socialist Realism in Polish painting and poster art. He took his first drawing lessons while attending gymnasium, after which he entered the School of Decorative Arts and Painting in Warsaw, where the lecturer was, among others, Edward Butrymowicz (1879-1944). During World War II he stayed in Moscow, where he continued his studies. Also there, he created poster designs and painted paintings on military themes. After returning to Poland, he served as head of the Front Poster Studio of the People's Army of Poland (1944-1948), and was a member of the Realist Group. In 1950-1952 he was a professor at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. In the following years he devoted himself entirely to painting, after 1956 he practiced Post-Impressionism. He traveled extensively to Italy, France and the United States, among other places - landscapes and vedutas from many of the cities he visited were created then. Awarded among others: Officer's and Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, Gold Cross of Merit (1952) (twice), Silver Cross of Merit, Medal for Warsaw 1939-1945, Medal for Oder, Neisse, Baltic and Victory and Freedom Medal 1945.
