Excerpt from the expert opinion of Katarzyna Lomnicka, MA: "Maritime themes, and above all views from the Baltic Sea, are among the dominant motifs of Soter Jaxa-Małachowski's work. During the interwar period, the artist spent almost every year on the Baltic Sea, where he created numerous compositions showing the sea, both calm and rough, covered with foamy waves, in addition to views of fishing ports and boats left on the shore. The artist rarely depicted figures of fishermen in his paintings, most often he painted a pure landscape, in which the presence of man is evidenced just by empty fishing boats stretched out on the sand."
