Stanislaw MASŁOWSKI
1853 Wlodawa - 1926 Warsaw
Painter, illustrator, graphic artist and critic associated with Warsaw; one of the most proficient and popular - next to J. Fałat and A. Kędzierski - Polish watercolorists. He attended the Warsaw Drawing Class, remaining under the tutelage of W. Gerson and A. Kamienski. In 1886, already an established artist, he spent upwards of six months in Munich. Since the beginning of the last century, he went on plein-air trips to Italy almost every year; beginning in 1909, he used to spend the summer months in his favorite Wola Rafałowska in Podlasie. He was a member of TZSP and TAP "Sztuka" and from 1921 also of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts. A Ukrainianophile and lover of the Mazovian landscape, he was a realist by passion and temperament, a painter of landscapes and genre scenes; from 1890, when he was almost exclusively working outdoors, he almost completely abandoned the oil technique in favor of watercolor.
