From 1971 to 1976 she studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Katowice, Poland. She defended her diploma in 1976 in the Workshop Graphics Studio under Prof. Andrzej Pietsch. In 1999 she was awarded the title of full professor. She teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and at the Art Department of the Częstochowa Higher School of Pedagogy. For many years she also led the printmaking studio at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw. Known mainly as a graphic artist, she has also been painting for several years. Ewa Zawadzka has chosen a subject for her painting that is as rare as unattractive, aesthetically pleasing; a block of large concrete slabs under construction. But the subject is not important: what is important is how the artist was able to interpret it, what to make of it. And she was able to do a lot. To transform the heavy and gruffly lumpen into logically constructive, the repulsively cold and yawning void - into mysterious spaces of light and shadow, the messy unevenness - into structurally enlivened, the disorderly strewn with rebar - into curiously rhythmic. Nothing was lost through this, the truth of the conveyed object. (...) Zawadzka chooses gray-green or gray-yellow hues, which only allegedly are as close to reality as the motifs themselves. In fact, they distance themselves from reality by moving into areas of aesthetics. Colors are used very sensitively, and the slightest trace of their use emphasizes her art of color creation.
