ANDRZEJ SZEWCZYK Andrzej Szewczyk was born in 1950 in Szopienice, and died in 2001 in Cieszyn. Visual artist, creator of objects, poet and teacher. He studied art education at the Silesian University in Cieszyn in 1974/78.He was far from the artistic center, spending his entire life in Kaczyce Górne. He was associated with the Foksal Gallery for nearly two decades. Since 2000 he cooperated with the Muzalewska Gallery in Poznan (which organized many of his exhibitions, posthumously "Resonance" - date ) and his work is represented by it. At the beginning of his artistic path he was involved in painting and sculpture. In the late 1960s, he began to create his first spatial arrangements and participated in art actions. In his painting, he denied the traditional role of the painterly image and the role of the painter as creator. He was interested in impersonal, mechanical painting, but at the same time joyful and vital. He used unusual sub-images and painting materials (walls, mirrors, school notebooks, maps). In the late 1970s, issues of recording came to the fore in Szewczyk's art. Andrzej Szewczyk is one of the most interesting figures in post-war Polish art.
