Andrzej Klimowski is a London-born painter, graphic artist, illustrator, author of graphic novels and animated films, and one of the most important figures in Polish and British poster art. He comes from a family of Polish emigrants and has maintained strong ties with Poland throughout his life. He studied painting and sculpture at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, and later studied poster design and animated film at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, under the guidance of Henryk Tomaszewski and Kazimierz Urbański, among others. From 1973 to 1980, he lived and worked in Warsaw, designing theater and film posters that quickly brought him recognition. After returning to London, he began teaching—he lectured on graphic arts and design in Canterbury and West Surrey, and since 1984 he has been affiliated with the Royal College of Art, where he served as director of the Visual Communication program and was awarded the title of professor. His body of work includes posters, book covers, press illustrations, graphic novels, and films.
