Painter, representative of Formism and Colorism. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under the direction of J. Mehoffer and W. Weiss. during his studies he became associated with the Futurist movement in Cracow. In 1924 he went to Paris with a group of painters called the "Paris Committee." After returning to Poland, he worked as an educator in small towns. In the spring of 1941 he was arrested by the USSR authorities and deported to Tobolsk, where he died later that year. He exhibited his works with the "Zwornik" group and at the Institute of Art Propaganda in Warsaw. He painted landscapes and views of towns, portraits and self-portraits. The color scheme of his works was usually dark, the form largely generalized, built up from characteristic multi-directional brushstrokes. Szczyrbula's works are currently in private collections and the collections of Polish museums.
