Jan Kulikowski (1914–1995) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Professors Mieczysław Kotarbiński and Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski. He received his diploma in 1939. From 1946 onward, he participated in nationwide exhibitions (including the 2nd National Exhibition of Fine Arts, Warsaw, 1952). At these exhibitions, he most often presented drawings and posters. He also worked in painting, printmaking, and applied arts, as well as, to a lesser extent, sculpture. He was known primarily as a member of the Bydgoszcz art community; his work is represented in the local Regional Museum as well as in other public and private collections.
