Irénée Rochard (1906–1984)—a French decorative sculptor, best known for her Art Nouveau depictions of animals, particularly birds and big cats. She was born in 1906 in Villefranche-sur-Saône, France, into a family with artistic traditions. She studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. In 1931, she won a gold medal at the Colonial Exhibition, and in 1938, she became a member of the Society of French Artists. She worked primarily in bronze, though she is also known for her works in marble, ceramics, and wood. She was fascinated by the animal world, which is evident in her work: she created highly realistic sculptures based on careful observation of nature. Many of her works were acquired by the Paris City Council and the City of New York. Rochard died in 1984 in Paris.
