Title: Catalog of Ancient Monuments Unearthed from the Rediscovered City of Herculaneum. Vol. 1
Author: Baiardi (Bayardi) Ottavio Antonio
Item description:
Notes: The complete work was published in 9 volumes between 1755 and 1779.
Contains 4 small copperplate engravings in the text signed "C.P." and "P.A.P.". A very large-format item (49 cm block). A luxuriously published and highly regarded scholarly catalog of the excavations at Herculaneum
Condition:
Binding slightly damaged with minor damage to the spine and a loss at the bottom; the block has defects in the form of a missing title page, missing pp. 13–16 (instead, pp. 5–8 are repeated—a publishing error), pp. 245–248, pp. 427–444; otherwise, the block is essentially undamaged, compact and sturdy, clean or fairly clean—only the first page is more heavily stained, and some pages have rusty spots or stains. The item is in more than good condition
